It's one of my favorite aspects of the novella and I cannot wait to see what Giesbrecht does next. The writing style was superb and so deliciously dark and gritty. This is a dark Fantasy novel, set in a town that's reminiscent of the small towns of the industrial era in Germany and it follows two men - one who is the monster of the town, living in its shadows and the other who is the only surviving member of one of the town's founding families. When I got this one alongside my requested ARC of Gideon the Ninth, I had no idea what to expect.īut I really enjoyed this one, and it completely took me by surprise.
